Biography

Nuran Mobarak Albarakati is a PhD student in the SSB group within the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE) Division at KAUST, under the supervision of Dr. Kyle Lauersen.

She completed her undergraduate degree at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, and earned her degree in the Plant Division of the Biology Department.

After that, Nuran worked as a Lecturer at Umm Al-Qura University in her hometown, Makkah. She later pursued a master’s degree in plant environment, specializing in microalgae, at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah.

During her MSc, she isolated and cultivated marine microalgae using blood waste medium as a recyclable cultivation method. Her research focused on evaluating the nutritional value of the isolated microalgae as a supplement for ruminant feed.

Research Interests

Nuran is interested in algal biotechnology and exploring various environmental and economic applications of microalgae to promote sustainability.
