KAUST CoE "Sustainable Food Security": Second Meeting and Visit to Radwa Company Facilities
09 September, 2024
Last week, following the successful kickoff of the KAUST Center of Excellence in Sustainable Food Security project 5934, the team held a productive second meeting. This time, members of the collaboration visited the chicken farm and food processing facilities of Saudi Radwa Food Co. Ltd. The visit provided critical insights into the day-to-day operations of Radwa's production processes, which are crucial for the project's goal of using low-value waste to create sustainable high-value proteins. In addition to gaining an understanding of the facilities, the team took the opportunity to collect samples. These samples will be used to isolate local microalgae strains, a core component of the project's focus on developing sustainable food sources from underused resources. The visit included representatives from the Development of Algae Biotechnology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (DAB-KSA), the Sustainable & Synthetic Biotechnology Group, Prof. Mani Sarathi's team, and Saudi Radwa Food Co. Ltd.
