Biography

Hazem is a Palestinian-Canadian. Hazem has lived in Saudi Arabia at KAUST for many years and was a student at the KAUST school. Throughout his years in the secondary school at the KAUST school, he has been enriched in the wonders of the sciences through the school curriculum and connection of TKS to KAUST. In the diploma program, Hazem took Biology and Chemistry as higher-level courses. Since 2023, he has moved back to Canada and began an undergraduate degree in Biology and Biotechnology at Carleton University where he is now entering his second year. Hazem regularly comes to KAUST and is currently interning in the Sustainable & Synthetic Biotechnology Group at KAUST under Professor Kyle Lauersen acting as the principal investigator and Postdoctoral fellow Dr. Barbara Freitas as the supervisor.

Research Interests

His current aims are to develop his understanding and skills in a laboratory, in addition to learning how to use different scientific instrumentation found in a laboratory. He is interested in the field of biotechnology specifically the aspects of medicine, natural products, and food sustainability.
